Upcoming events.

Vancouver Island Engineering Society (VIES) hosts monthly virtual talks on a variety of engineering topics. During our event season, which typically runs from October to June, we bring together engineers and scientists doing ground breaking work on the Island and around the province.

In addition to virtual events, we also organize in person events such as lectures and tours.

These talks are hosted in collaboration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and can be used to help members meet their continuing education requirements.

2024 Engineering Showcase

Rainhouse Manufacturing Canada Ltd. and the University of Victoria are excited to announce the highly anticipated 2024 Engineering Showcase, scheduled for Friday, September 20th, 2024 at the Bay Street Armoury.

Overview of the CASTOR UV Telescope
and James Webb Telescope Update

This event will feature two groundbreaking space telescopes: CASTOR and the James Webb Space Telescope. CASTOR, a Canadian project, aims to deliver Hubble-like imaging and wide-field surveys from low-Earth orbit, focusing on ultraviolet and optical wavelengths. The talk will also highlight Canada’s contributions to the James Webb Space Telescope and discuss how its early observations are reshaping our understanding of the universe.
